Possibly born in Norway. Died in March 1756 in the Nicobar Islands.

1753 - Permission to enter the service of the Asiatic Company as lieutenant and engineer. (Larsen Ostindiske Personalia)

1753 - Departure from Copenhagen on board the ship "Tranquebar", bound for Tranquebar. (Larsen Ostindiske Personalia)

1754 - Arrived at Tranquebar. (Larsen Ostindiske Personalia)

1754 - Helped inspect the Guvernor's residence at the request of Guvernor Krog, which was found to be in bad condition (Struwe, VGT 6, 202-203)

1754 - December, instructed to travel to Pondicherry, and on his way inspect the newly erected battery in the Danish "loge" Portonovo. He returned to Tranquebar in 1755 (Larsen Ostindiske Personalia)

1755 - 14 August, he was named leader of the expedition to colonise the Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal. In september the same year, Tanck set out with the two ships Kongen af Danmark and Ebenezer (see www.jmarcussen.dk for more information on the ships).
