He was one of the merchants to benefit greatly and founding his fortune in the trade to the West Indies and East Indies during the years of neutrality during the American War of Independence (BioLek II)

1798: The company owned six ships engaged in the Mediterranean trade, as well as a few ships engaged in trade to and from the East Indies, West Indies, South America and the Baltic (BioLek II)
