Bargum, (Henning) Frederik

Merchant in Copenhagen. By family related to Gustmeier, Carl Hieronymus who traded in timber and money (BioLek II). Gustmeier was married to Frederik Bargum's aunt [Gustmeier, Catharina]], and upon the death of Gustmeier, Frederik Bargum and his aunt, the widow, ran the House og Gustmeier & Bargum together in companionship. Bargum also married his aunt's daughter. (BioLek II)

1753 - Bought a number of cotton textiles from the Asiatic Company ship PRINSESSE WILHELMINE CAROLINE's cargo (Moltke archive, no. 82)
1756 - Bought a number of cotton textiles from the Asiatic Company ship FREDERIK & LOUISE's cargo (Moltke archive, no. 94)
1760 - Named generaltobaksdirektør. This title meant he had monopoly of trade in tobacco, which was not receieved well in the community (BioLek II)
1761 - Passed the company on to fellow merchant Borre, Peter of the merchant house House of Borre & Fenger (BioLek II)
1762 - The company House og Gustmeier & Bargum was pushed out of the timber trade by Bodenhoff, Andreas (Gold in Luxury and Gender in European Towns, 1700-1914, p. 65)
? - Bought the Frenchman's Douilhac manufacture of hats (BioLek II)
1764 - Was granted priviledge to keep running the manufacture of hats. He also had a fishbone manufacture (BioLek II)
1764 - c.: Wealthy enough to contract Jardin, J. N. to build a mansion in Amaliegade, the so-called Gule Palæ (BioLek II)
1765 - Granted oktroj to form Det danske Guineiske Kompagni, a partnership that traded slaves, ivory and sugar in West Africa and the West Indies (BioLek II)
1772 - Listed as subscribent, i.e. contributor, to a reprint of Ludvig Holberg’s comic epos Peder Paars (Holberg, Peder Paars, 1772)
