As a young man, he was employed with the largest merchant house of Elsinore, owned by Hansen, Hans Georg. Here he was a boy for 7 years, "købmandssvend" for 6 years and "prokurist" for another 6 years. (Müller 1935, p. 194)

1748 or 1749 - Travelled abroad to learn more about trade and business. (Müller 1935, p. 194)

Made a partnership with Brown, John and formed the merchant House of Brown & Godenius. (Müller 1935, p. 194)

1754 - Citizenship as merchants in Elsinore. (Müller 1935, p. 194)
