Timeline

Famously, he had his portrait painted by C. W. Eckersberg. The portrait is in the The Hirschsprung Collection today.

The census of Copenhagen of 1801 shows that Schmidt lived in Øster Kvarter matrikulus no. 258, which is possibly the adress today of Holmens Kanal 14. This means that he would have lived next door to Peschier, Pierre

In the house on Holmens Kanal lived Schmidt with his wife, two sons and two daughters, alongside a number of servants: Four male contorister (clerks), two male gaardskarle, three female servants, one man who was bookkeeper at the ''Kongelige Søe Assurance Compagnie'', and finally, a boy of 14 who was contoir dreng (office boy) (Copenhagen census 1801)
